This is a project that is dear to my heart because it was for a close friend and their partner. There is something special about being hired by a friend. A certain kind of pressure to do a great job, which, in the right doses, lights my creative fire. A deep respect that they are willing to pay for my creative services. A special knowing about the person that is difficult to replicate with a new client who I am just meeting for the first time. I came to the design table with an understanding of their background, style, upbringing, preferences, tics – all of that je ne sais quois about them that I normally would have to learn on the fly.

Designing this home and making it feel like theirs was never forced, it was just a matter of looking. When I searched for the right items, fabrics, accessories – the right ones had their names written all over it. I appreciate their trust in my design instincts to deliver a home that feels unique and oh-so-very them.

I couldn’t be happier with the outcome, and I’m super excited to share these beautiful images.

“‘Ochre feels like the grown-up evolution of yellow – earthy, rich, and wonderfully grounding,’ says designer Emily Flaxman of Flax Interiors. ‘I love using it in spaces that catch natural light, like a breakfast nook, where it radiates warmth without ever feeling too bright. It has a beautiful way of making a room feel sunlit, even on gray days.’”
